Once the CO₂ is captured, it can be compressed and transported via pipelines or ships to a storage location. Transport of CO₂ is regularly applied and is technically possible. The development of transport networks that connect optimally all CO₂ sources and sink will be complex and challenging.

CCS will only be widely deployed if there is a transport infrastructure between CO₂ sources and suitable storage sites, and if the technology becomes economically viable.
